Mia Torrecillas, a senior at Bakersfield Highland High in California, won her third consecutive individual title at the Central Section Championships by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 18:10.42 in the Division 2 final at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Torrecillas captured the Division 3 crown in 2021 and has secured the past two Division 2 championships. Torrecillas also produced the second-fastest Division 2 performance in Central Section finals history, trailing only the 18:10.0 effort achieved in 2003 by Bakersfield Centennial's Brittany Grimes. Torrecillas also led Highland to its third straight championship, including the past two in Division 2, with a 57-113 victory against Bakersfield. Highland advanced to race Nov. 25 at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park.
